Herefordshire for Europe

Due to the coronavirus we are asking everyone to check with the individual event organisers that the event you're wanting to attend is still going ahead.

Herefordshire for Europe (H4EU) invites you to a webinar on Zoom about the loss of the Erasmus+ programme which enabled students to study anywhere across the European Union. This event is aimed at pro-EU groups and students across the West Midlands but is of course open more widely. We are delighted to have four speakers: Sara Southam, International Education & Training Programme Consultant, from Birmingham but recently moved to Tallinn; Katherine Davis, Chief Executive of Experiment in International Living (EIL) UK based in Malvern; and Ana Amona and Caitlin Morgan, who both did Erasmus and belong to EuroPeers UK. There will be time for questions and answers after they have spoken.

Sara will share some information about the wide range of funding opportunities and connections lost with the unnecessary withdrawal from the Erasmus+ programme, based on her experience working on its delivery since 2014. She'll explore this decision's wider ranging impact on the future of education and training opportunities for UK learners, to highlight why we need to continue to raise awareness of the loss and campaign to re-join Erasmus+.

EIL UK is an international education charity with a track record of pioneering youth exchange programmes in Europe since the 1930’s. For more than 10 years EIL has held the UK National Agency contracts for training inbound and outbound volunteers. From these perspectives, Katherine will highlight the benefits of international exchanges for young people and share examples of how the UK’s withdrawal from the Erasmus programme is impacting on communities closer to home.

Ana is a EuroPeer UK member after her experience with Erasmus+ during university and as a EuroPeer. She will be talking about the benefits Erasmus+ can have in the life of young people and the opportunities it gives to people that do not have the means to access them without a generous programme designed for them.

Caitlin graduated in French from the University of Liverpool after spending her year abroad in Tours, France, just before the coronavirus outbreak and experiencing firsthand the benefits of the Erasmus+ programme. She’ll discuss how she personally benefited from the programme, what others around her have said and why it is such a loss to language students across the country.

This is an opportunity to learn how valuable the Erasmus+ programme is and, as Sara says, why it's so important to campaign to rejoin it. The Young European Movement UK is spearheading the Erasmus Plus Alliance campaign to rejoin: Erasmus+ - Young European Movement UK (
