Webinar: Hungary After the Elections - The first few weeks in restoring democracy and the rule of law
At 7pm (UK) on Monday 18th May we welcome back Márta Pardavi, co-chair of the Hungarian Helsinki Committee for an online talk about the recent defeat of Viktor Orban in Hungary’s general election and progress towards restoring democracy and the rule of law.
Cambridge for Europe are co-hosting this online talk with Oxford for Europe and Grassroots for Europe.
About this webinar
In the April 2026 parliamentary elections, Hungarians overwhelmingly voted against corruption and democratic decline and for a pro-Europe orientation. This webinar examines evolving ideas to rebuild checks and balances, judicial independence, and fair political competition, while navigating entrenched constraints such as constitutional lock-in and state capture.
It will also assess whether European Union rule of law tools are able support a credible path toward democratic renewal.
