At last Mid Kent has its own bank account! Branch Treasurer, Derrick Cripps is to be congratulated for his exhaustive efforts to make this happen.

The account will make it far simpler to manage payment of bills and receipt of subs and donations, and the preparation of accounts for the branch’s AGM.

The account is with Lloyds Bank, branch code 30-99-50, number 62959760, and the account name is simply EMMK.

if you’re wondering what the branch’s expenses might be, we purchased a folding table and a triptych display board recently, which gave us great service on a windy March Saturday in Week Street, Maidstone.

It is hoped that the existence of the account will enable, and encourage branch members and supporters to contribute in whichever way they can to the strength of the branch.

  • Saturday 25 March 2023 was declared ‘National Rejoin Day’. To help celebrate it a small team from Mid Kent gathered in Maidstone on a windy, day at the end of Fremlin Walk, on the corner of Week Street and Earl Street. A new table and display stand were erected for the first time and seriously tested by the wind.

We were joined by Nick from SSTIE (Sevenoaks, Swanley and Tonbridge in Europe) and handed out plenty of leaflets. We also had a new Brexitometer, inviting people to mark whether certain groups were Brexit Winners or Brexit losers. Among the groups were Farmers, Fishers and Families. Apart from a single person, everybody chose to mark every group, whether student or singer as a loser from Brexit.

Although most people passing by studiously avoided meeting our gaze, there were plenty of people who responded with real joy to our presence in Maidstone, as Brexity a place as any in Kent.
