Orpington has been a safe Conservative seat except for the surprise by-election win in 1962 (by the then Liberal party candidate Eric Lubbock (re-elected in 1964 and '66). In the 2019 elections, the Cons had 63%. Boris‘ brother Jo Johnson was replaced by Gareth Bacon, an ardent government supporter. Electoral calculus sees little impact from boundary changes.
The High Street has changed drastically in the last years, especially since Covid and there are plans for a huge development of flats above the shopping centre.
56% voted leave against 44% remain.
It will be interesting to see how people feel now, 8 years after the vote.
