Dear [INSERT MP NAME] MP,

As a local constituent, I am writing today to urge you to support one key amendment to the government’s European Union (Withdrawal) Bill that is currently before Parliament.

I consider leaving the European Union to be one of the biggest political issues facing our country. Regardless of how people voted last year we could be forced to live with whatever deal is agreed with the EU by the government for generations to come.

So far the negotiations have given us no cause for optimism. At present it looks likely that whatever deal we get will not be as good as the one we have with the EU at present – or worse still we could end up crashing out with no deal at all!

I therefore think it is vital that there is as much oversight and scrutiny of the final deal as possible to ensure that it is up to scratch.

MPs, like yourself, should have a proper debate and a meaningful vote on the deal and, should you decide it is not good enough, the option to reject the deal. To ensure this happens I would like you to support Amendment 7 of the current Bill which has been tabled by Dominic Grieve MP.

The Amendment states:

Amendment 7: Require the final deal to be approved by statute passed by Parliament

Clause 9, page 6, line 45, at end insert “, subject to the prior enactment of a statute by Parliament approving the final terms of withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union.” Member’s explanatory statement: To require the final deal with the EU to be approved by statute passed by Parliament

The Amendment is likely to come to the House in early December and I really hope that you will be able to support it.

Yours sincerely,
