One Earth. One Team.

A New Agenda for UK–EU Energy, Climate, and Environment Cooperation

Teaming up with our friends in Europe will help us reduce energy costs, keep us healthy, and protect our planet. That is the key message from our report on how the UK and the EU can work together on the energy, climate, and environment crises.

Environment Partnership

A Partnership for the Earth

We only have one Earth. To protect and restore it, we need to be one team. Partnering with our friends in Europe will help keep us healthy, restore our natural world, and reduce energy costs.

As a team, the UK and Europe can work together we can stop using harmful chemicals that can cause cancer. By working together to make rules stronger, we can help protect families and stop more people from getting sick.

As a team, we can stop water companies from putting sewage into our rivers and beaches. We can restore our natural world. And we can stand up to climate criminals who are harming nature, hurting communities, and getting away with it. Together we can look after nature and keep our countryside special.

As a team, we can work together to help bring down energy bills for everyone. By using more clean energy, governments can make power cleaner, cheaper and lower your bills.

That is why the European Movement UK is calling for a new partnership between the EU and the UK to reduce energy bills, protect our health, and clean up our environment.

What will a partnership do?

Help the Planet

The UK and the EU should agree a plan to work together on energy and climate. If they follow through on it, they can share a system that helps reduce pollution (called the Emissions Trading System), let the UK join the EU's big electricity network again, learn from Europe who give financial help to households so they can afford the short-term costs of changing to cleaner energy.

Working Together to Help the Planet and Save Money
Clean Energy

The UK should join a team of countries called the North Seas Energy Cooperation. This team works together to plan and build clean energy projects in the sea, like wind farms and power cables. If the UK joins fully, it can help make big decisions about where and how to build energy projects, make sure the energy system is strong and reliable, and get more money to build clean energy projects and keep energy safe and steady for both the UK and nearby countries.

Working Together to Plan Clean Energy
Protect People and Nature

The UK and the EU should try to keep their rules similar when it comes to things like dangerous chemicals that cause cancer, waste and recycling, clean air, and designing eco-friendly products.

Keeping Rules the Same to Protect People and Nature
Help Nature

The UK should rejoin important European groups that collect and share information about the environment, help scientists work together, and keep track of nature and pollution across Europe. This would help the UK get better data and advice to protect nature, work with others on big climate and wildlife projects, and get money and support to take care of local nature. The UK should also work with the EU on rules about chemicals, so safety information is shared, UK companies don't have to do the same tests twice, and everyone saves time and money.

Working Together to Help Nature and Stay Safe

  • Link Emissions Trading Systems and rejoin EU internal electricity market.
  • Join North Seas Energy Cooperation for offshore energy development.
  • Align regulations on chemicals, waste, air quality, and ecodesign.
  • Rejoin European Environment Agency and LIFE programme.
