Our next members-only event is here.
Organised by the European Movement’s International Committee (IC), join us on Wednesday, 6 Sep for an online, in-conversation event - Imagining Europe: searching for new histories, with Neil MacGregor.
Neil MacGregor is an art historian, writer and BBC broadcaster — and a committed European. His works include A History of the World in 100 Objects; Germany, Memories of a Nation; and Living with the Gods.
During this session, he’ll argue that, for a new European future, we need new European histories.
He will ask where, and how, citizens can form an idea of Europe that speaks to the imagination? National identities have been forged and sustained, not by economic or administrative arguments, but by a potent mix of selective histories and rituals, images and institutions.
Recent debates in every European country about the histories carried by street-names and statues have shown how difficult it is to move to a new understanding of what constitutes the nation.
Format of the event
Neil will speak for around 30 minutes, followed by about 20 minutes of conversation with EM’s International Officer, Richard Morris, then open the floor to you, the audience, for a 40-minute Q&A session.
We hope you’ll join us for a stimulating and thoughtful discussion. Sign up now to secure your free ticket.
We’re very excited to have Neil join us, and we can’t wait to hear the discussion you have with him.
This event is exclusively for members of the European Movement UK only.
