My name is Linda Bradbury, and I am a member of the European Movement Oswestry and North Shropshire Branch, who is actively involved in the People's Vote Campaign. 

On Saturday 23rd March 2019, I was proud to be one of the 1 million+ who took part in the People's Vote, Put It To The People March in London, demanding a final say for the British public on Brexit. I decided to march because I am passionate about the UK getting a People's Vote and possibly remaining in the EU.

A crowd estimated at over one million people on Saturday 23rd March walked through central London to demand a fresh vote on Brexit. It was a good-natured affair with a pop group, a brass band, morris dancers and more, catering for people with a wide range of tastes and backgrounds. The marchers came from as far afield as Edinburgh, Cardiff, Birmingham, to Bristol, Plymouth and Exeter. The East Midlands were well represented.  Nottingham’s People’s Vote Campaign and European Movement were both there in force. Local MPs Chris Leslie and Anna Soubry joined the marchers.

On Saturday 23rd March the European Movement Macclesfield and East Cheshire descended on London to join more than a million others at the ‘Put It To The People March’ It was not quite a case of ‘Planes Trains and Automobiles’ but very nearly as we used all means possible to get to the capital (including, for the earliest risers, coaches with our colleagues from Staffs4EU and Manchester for Europe).

Real people took part in this, handmade banners named many who could not come.

A warm yet sad atmosphere at the impending loss of our belonging in Europe and yet a sense that at least the whole of us had one mind about changing the nation‘s mind in a second vote.

Children cheered and marched to the beat of the bands and everyone had a smile for their neighbour.

Green parakeets cheered us on.

In June 2018 we manged to fill two coaches for the People's Vote March. In October 2018, we were up to six but for the Put It To The People March, we topped out at twelve (including one from Worcester University). If you add the independent travellers, and there were quite a few, there were over 1000 protesters from our area. All the county towns were represented and marched as a group. This upturn in support reflects the change in support across the county, as more and more people support a People's Vote. But the important thing to remember is that the constituency of Worcester City is the 'indicator' marginal in General Elections. Back to the point...the team had a fantastic day out and through cunning planning and experience made it to Parliament Square for the speeches. It was great to be part of one of the largest protests in UK history. We counted them all out and counted them all back, Worcestershire has it's supporters back in place and ready for a People's Vote.
